Will Mata be Man United's Ozil?

Manchester United have finally managed to land a proper signing in this January transfer window, after signing Juan Mata on a club record fee. The Spaniard penned down a four-and-a-half-year deal.

Manchester United manager David Moyers secured his second signing at the club since taking over after Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement. The first signing didn't really do much except spending time on the medical table, Marouane Fellaini joined United in the summer transfer window but didn't live up to his manager's hype. Now the big question is whether Mata will fit in perfectly to this distorted United side that has suffered numerous back to back defeats this season. Manchester United fans will be hoping that the Spaniard fits in perfectly in the squad just as Ozil did at Arsenal. This is possible though Manchester United doesn't have the same number of quality players like Arsenal, if you take away Rooney and Van Persie United is just a normal side like Aston Villa. Manchester United is reportedly in talks with Wayne Rooney over a new contract which will see the English front man leading the team as Captain, hopefully that will benefit United. The best option would be to send Rooney back to his original position now that Mata has arrived, but then again Moyers preferred using Wayne Rooney in the middle of the park with Kagawa watching from the bench, yes Rooney did the job very well because he is a hard worker.

This season is about to be really interesting, we just have to wait and see when all David Moyers' front men are back. Manchester United fans will have to wait till Tuesday night to see if Mata is their Ozil.

Sir Alex - Rooney lacks fitness!

Sir Alex has criticised Wayne Rooney in his new autobiography. The former Manchester United Manager claims Wayne Rooney's qualities can be "swallowed up by a lack of fitness". He then goes on to compare Wayne Rooney with Cristiano Ronaldo and Ryan Giggs saying that the two look after themselves and they always working on keeping fit unlike the English striker. "Wayne needed to be careful. He has great qualities about him but they can be swallowed up by a lack of fitness. Look at the way [Cristiano] Ronaldo or [Ryan] Giggs look after themselves. Wayne needed to grasp the nettle. If he missed a couple of weeks for United, it could take him four or five games to get his sharpness back. “He would receive no leniency from me. I would hammer him for any drop in condition. It was quite simple – he wouldn’t play. That’s the way I always dealt with fitness issues, regardless of the player involved, and I saw no reason to change in the final years of my career. “In my final year, when he was left out a few times, and replaced in big games, I felt he was struggling to get by people and had lost some of his old thrust. But he was capable of making extraordinary contributions. That pass to Van Persie in the win over Aston Villa that secured the title for us was marvellous, as was his overhead kick against Man City. Those flashes guaranteed his profile. But as time wore on, I felt he struggled more and more to do it for 90 minutes, and he seemed to tire in games. “I took him off in that Aston Villa game because Villa were a very young side full of running, and their substitute was running past Wayne.” Manchester United fans will be hoping that all these comments from their former Manager doesn't crash their plane that is already on auto-pilot.
